Another fire at REG’s Geismar renewable diesel plant injures 4
Renewable Energy Group Inc. announced Sept. 4 that another fire occurred at its 75 MMgy Geismar, Louisiana-based renewable diesel production complex. The fire began around midnight and it was declared completely extinguished by 4:20 a.m.
REG noted that all employees on site have been accounted for, but four people—one REG employee and three contractors—were injured and are being treated at Baton Rouge General Hospital.
The plant was just recovering from a fire that broke out in April. Last month REG President and CEO Daniel J. Oh said the facility was nearly finished rebuilding from the April fire and expected to restart production in the third quarter. REG’s April 2 fire injured two employees.
